A Montreal performance by a controversial Polish black metal band was cancelled after a protest led to security concerns.
Several dozen people gathered in front of Beaubien Metro Saturday afternoon to rally against the band Graveland, set to perform at the nearby Théâtre Plaza.
Protesters, many of whom were dressed in black, spoke out against what they say is racism among the group's members. The demonstration attracted a heavy police presence.
Graveland was booked at the venue as part of the annual Messe des Morts(external link) festival.
The organizers said in a statement that it was forced to cancel the show for "security reasons."

Alexandre Boulerice, New Democratic Party MP for Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, was among those at the protest.
Boulerice said he was "concerned" that groups with fascist leanings and whose members made remarks resembling "white supremacists" were in his riding.
