Health PEI said a private company will determine if further cleanup is needed
Health PEI is waiting on the results of an environmental assessment after a fuel leak at Riverview Manor in Montague.
On November 10, a staff member noticed what Health PEI described as a small damp patch on the floor of the boiler room. An environmental consulting company, Joose Environmental, was called in and fixed a leaking pipe and cleaned the damp patch on the floor.
The company is now investigating to see what — if any — further cleanup is required.
If the company determines that fuel seeped down to the soil then further work, such as digging, may be required. Health PEI will not know what needs to be done until it receives more information from Joose Environmental. Health PEI communications officer Amanda Hamel said the department expects to receive that information next week.
Small spill
Health PEI said the leak was very small, and did not interrupt patient care.
A spokesperson for Health PEI said the building was not evacuated.
She said the fuel smell was only detectable within the boiler room, and no one reported feeling sick.
