Detroit Red Wings also reveal new jerseys for the NHL's outdoor game
One hundred years of hockey calls for some new threads as the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their Centennial Classic sweaters on Monday.
There's a lot of history stitched into these Leafs uniforms.
The thick band of white across the body of the sweater is reminiscent of the Toronto St. Pats sweater worn in the early 1920s, while the white Toronto Arenas "T" on the player's pant leg pays tribute to the city's first NHL franchise.
In a release, club president Brendan Shanahan said the sweater would have, "a signature look for the occasion, combining important elements of our club's past, but also our present and future."
The jerseys will be worn for the NHL's 2017 Centennial Classic outdoor game on Jan. 1 at BMO Field in Toronto when the Leafs will take on the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings also unveiled new sweaters for the occasion.
The jerseys have a simple look and include a special silver band on both arms with the years of each of the Red Wings' 11 Stanley Cup championships.
