An early morning house fire in Winnipeg killed a man on Thursday.
Firefighters were called to the home in the 200 block of Lynbrook Drive, in the Charleswood neighbourhood, around 2 a.m.
Const. Rob Carver of the Winnipeg Police Service said a neighbour called 911 after seeing the blaze in the home.
The elderly man was first treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Carver said the arson unit is investigating.
"When we don't have that ability to speak to a witness and we don't have the ability to determine [the cause] up front, arson is going to investigate," he said.
"But saying that, we don't want to send out the message that, because arson is investigating, that it look like arson," Carver said. "In fact, it's the opposite this time."
