24-year-old Amina-Sara Belahbib of Gatineau killed, Blainville, Que., man charged
A 25-year-old man is expected to be charged with impaired driving causing death after a 24-year-old woman was killed in an overnight head-on crash on Highway 50, according to Quebec provincial police.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the two-vehicle crash near Doherty Road near Buckingham, Que., just after 2 a.m. Sunday.
A woman sitting in the back seat was thrown from the westbound vehicle from the force of the crash and died from her injuries, police said.
She has been identified as Amina-Sara Belahbib of Gatineau, Que.
Two other people in the westbound vehicle were also seriously hurt, but police said their injuries are not considered life threatening.
A 25-year-old man from Blainville, Que., was driving the eastbound vehicle, which crossed the centre line, police said. He suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.
The man is expected to be charged in a Gatineau courtroom on Monday morning, as police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Highway 50 was closed to traffic in both directions between Highway 317 and Highway 309 but has since reopened.
The stretch of road where the crash occurred is undivided with one lane in each direction from around Masson-Angers to northwest of Montreal, near its end.

Police said Elsa Loiseau, 26, was travelling westbound when she crossed the centre line and hit a vehicle in the eastbound lane. She and 21-year-old Élisabeth Brosda, who was driving the eastbound vehicle, died. A 20-year-old male passenger survived.

The mayor of the municipality of L'Ange Gardien, which Highway 50 passes through, said Sunday there are too many accidents on that part of the highway and the region deserves better.
Robert Goulet told Radio-Canada he can't do much except lobby the provincial government to expand that part of the highway, which was finished in November 2012.
