Northlands to introduce new K-Days rodeo with a $400,000 prize pool
Step aside, Calgary Stampede. Edmonton is introducing its own summer rodeo in 2017, in tandem with K-Days.
Though it's nowhere near the same size as the Stampede, the K-Days Summer Rodeo will host professional athletes from across North America who will compete for a $400,000 prize pool.
The announcement came on first day of Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.

The summer rodeo will take place from July 21 to July 23, with admission included as part of the K-Days ticket. President and CEO of Northlands Tim Reid said the rodeo will give Albertans the chance to enjoy rodeo action up close.
"Northlands is proud to showcase our region's western heritage with the addition of a summer rodeo to K-Days," he said in a statement.
Jeff Robson of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association said the relationship between the organization and Northlands goes back more than four decades and he's excited to give the winners a stronger opportunity to qualify for the Canadian Finals Rodeo in 2017.
"Showcasing the best of the best in the sport of rodeo at a sanctioned CPRA event is a win/win for all," Robson said.
Tickets will be available in the spring of 2017.
