Highway 1 closed for several hours near Highway 22 early Wednesday
RCMP are investigating after a man was hit and killed while walking on a highway near Cochrane early Wednesday.
Highway 1 was shut down for several hours near the intersection of Highway 22, after a 36-year-old Calgary man was struck by a passing vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver called RCMP just after midnight to report the collision, said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.
"The collision investigation is ongoing. We do have some idea why [the victim] was on the highway, we're not quite sure what he was doing at the time of the collision."
The driver of the vehicle was not impaired and hasn't been charged with any offences, said Savinkoff.
Police said the man was kicked out of a cab in the area not long before he was hit and they are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.
