Man in his 20s found at a house in southeast Calgary neighbourhood
Police say a shooting that killed a young man in the southeast Calgary neighbourhood of Riverbend resembles other homicides in the city.
Officers responded to a house around 10:50 a.m. in the 100 block of Riverbend Drive S.E., prompting temporary road closures in the area.
"Upon arrival, a man in his 20s was found seriously injured in the back seat of a car that was parked on the driveway of a residence," said police in a release.
"He was declared deceased on scene."
An autopsy is expected on Tuesday and the homicide unit has been called in to investigate.
Insp. Don Coleman with the major crimes section said the victim is known to police and they are looking for a dark-coloured minivan or SUV based on witness accounts.
Believed to be a targeted attack
Coleman said it appears the shooting was targeted and there is no immediate danger to the public.
"There's some earmarks, some similarities between other homicides we've had, but it's still too early to determine what exactly occurred, or what the motivation might have been."
Doug Chambers, who has lived in the neighbourhood for 21 years, said he heard some bangs but thought it was related to ongoing construction on a neighbour's roof.
"I heard what I think was three rapid bangs, followed fairly shortly by another one," he said.
"I never thought anything of it.... It wasn't until probably 15, 20 minutes later, I came out of the basement and looked out the window and saw all the action out there."
Interviews ongoing
Coleman said interviews with neighbours and witnesses are ongoing and there is no suspect at this time.
Investigators are also looking at some incidents in the community, which Coleman did not elaborate on, that might be related.
