Changes will start in the spring of 2017
GoodLife Fitness is laying off 285 people because of upgrades to IT systems that help manage their gyms and fitness clubs.
The company's head office in London, Ont. will lose 60 positions, said Jane Riddell, chief operating officer with GoodLife. Another 225 part-time positions will be cut from all GoodLife clubs.
The changes will start in the spring of 2017. GoodLife plans to introduce the changes early so employees will have time to transition to other roles within the company or make other plans going forward, Riddell said.
Riddell said it's the first company to introduce their new IT system in North America, though it is already used by other leading chains around the world.
There are 51 GoodLife outlets in Ontario.
