The pilot project allowing Uber to legally operate in areas of Quebec for one year officially came into effect Friday night.
The Commission des transports du Québec gave Uber the intermediate permit it needed to start the pilot project.
Uber now has to give the government $0.97 per ride for up to 50,000 hours of drive time per week.
After that, up until 100,000 hours, Uber owes $1.17 per ride and then above 100,000 hours the rate becomes $1.33 per ride.
The permit is valid until Oct. 14, 2017. It could however be extended by another year.
