Last in trio of B.C. storms not as fierce, but wind takes its toll

Trio of storms pounds Lower Mainland with high winds, rain, the last with more hype than bluster
People on B.C.'s lower mainland are cleaning up after the third in a trio of storms blasted Vancouver Island and parts of Metro Vancouver with high winds and rain.
At the peak of the storm trio more than 190,000 B.C. Hydro customers had no power, but by morning all was calm and now only 7,600 power outages remain.
Over the entire three-day period more than 290,000 customers endured power outages.
On Oct. 14, winds were in excess of 90-kilometres-per hour near Race Rocks in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Stanley Park was closed for safety reasons as winds ramped up last night, but the iconic Vancouver park was open to the public before midnight as winds diverted past the downtown.
In Victoria, storm watchers gathered on Dallas Road or at Clover Point to watch the power of the waves, crowned by brave kite surfers.
Falling trees did damage some homes and caused the death of a teenager in Surrey B.C. on Friday night, but the third in the trio was not as dire as first predicted as the storm tracked differently than expected.
Environment Canada has also lifted its heavy wind and rain warning today, predicting at worse, more heavy rain.
