Two Ottawa police officers have been suspended with pay after being accused of unsafely storing their firearms while off-duty in Kingston in May.
The investigation started in May but police refused to elaborate on what exactly sparked it.
"That's information that's in front of the courts. I can't discuss those details," Const. Chuck Benoit said. "The officers were off-duty, they were in another city and their firearms were not well stored," he said.
Constable Ahmad Hafizi, 39, has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, transferring a firearm without authority and obstructing a peace officer. Constable Christian Nungisa, 33, has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.
The two officers were suspended with pay in May and have been released on a promise to appear. They are both scheduled to appear in court in Kingston on November 24.
The Ottawa Police Service Professional Standards Section is also investigating the accusations.
