In separate case, suspected impaired driver allegedly kicked out cruiser window
Queens District RCMP say they've dealt with two impaired drivers in as many days — one who allegedly kicked out the window of a police cruiser, and another who picked up a student in his care.
At about 3 p.m. Thursday, RCMP say in a news release, police were called by officials at Westwood Elementary School about a guardian who picked up a student in his care.
School officials believed the driver was impaired, but he refused to hand over the child.
Two plainclothes officers intercepted the vehicle at the intersection of Meadowbank Road and the Trans-Canada Highway.
After a sobriety test, the driver was suspended from driving for seven days.
"RCMP are crediting school officials for their good work and judgement in preventing what could have had disastrous consequences," the release said.
'Combative with police'
Then, slightly after 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Queens RCMP were called to a two-vehicle collision on Meadowbank Road.
A 33-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was "stumbling" over the road, police said. He refused to submit to a complete drug evaluation.
"The driver has since been charged with Impaired Driving by Drugs, Refusal, and two additional charges for damage (Mischief) to the Queens District Office and a marked RCMP police vehicle, after becoming combative with police and ultimately kicking out the window of the vehicle," police allege.
The driver was taken to the Provincial Correctional Center near Charlottetown.
