Mandatory-helmet rule for ice skating in Charlottetown in effect

New rule, which applies to everyone in city arenas including staff, took effect Sept. 1
The City of Charlottetown is reminding people everybody needs a helmet if they're going to use the ice rinks at city-owned or operated arenas.
Previously, only children 12 and under had to wear helmets.
But earlier this year, the city followed the lead of other municipalities around the country and made Canadian Standards Association-approved helmets mandatory for everybody on the ice, including Zamboni drivers.
The new rule took effect in September.
You can request an exemption for religious reasons, or if your group is willing to assume liability coverage.
