'Simple changes in our daily lifestyle can make huge impacts to our environment'
As the cold drizzle falls and the days get shorter, Islanders may react by cranking the thermostat, turning on more lights and using an electric dryer instead of a clothesline. But the City of Charlottetown wants residents to think twice about this kind of behaviour.
The city is sponsoring six workshops in October to educate residents about new ways to practice sustainability including improved energy efficiency, better recycling habits and more.
"The importance of sustainability initiatives and educational opportunities for residents within the community continues to be a priority," said Mayor Clifford Lee in a written release.
'Reduce our impact'
"These workshops are about coming together with community members to share knowledge on ways to reduce our impact on the environment."
Most sessions will include an active learning component. For instance, during one workshop residents can make their own natural cleaning products to take home, while another session will feature an outdoor scavenger hunt.
The free workshops will be held in different venues around Charlottetown and you must pre-register on the city's website, charlottetown.ca, and click on Sustainability Workshop Series
The workshop schedule:
Oct. 6 — Energy Efficiency in the Home.
Oct. 12 — Climate Change 101.
Oct. 15 — Natural Home and Body, Nature in the City.
Oct. 16 — The Conscious Consumer.
