Inmates linked to previous riots at Her Majesty's Penitentiary in St. John's are causing trouble again, sources say, creating what officials are calling a "minor disturbance."
The Department of Justice and Public Safety said in a statement late Friday afternoon that the incident started earlier in the day, but caused no injuries to staff.
"Staff quickly resolved the situation with only minor damage occurring," wrote spokeswoman Jacquelyn Howard in an email. "As per protocol, the three inmates involved are being assessed by medical personnel."

Sources tell CBC News Friday's incident involved Calvin Kenny and Wayne Murray.
Kenny is accused of first-degree murder in the death of Steven Miller, and was sentenced in 2015 for his role in the Chapel Riot at the prison.
An emergency response team was called to the penitentiary on Friday afternoon, attending to the disturbance in the special handling unit (SHU).
The SHU, which was damaged in the incident, is home to the prison's higher risk inmates.
There are no immediate reports of inmate injuries, and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was not called.
A spokesperson said the inmates are being checked over by medical personnel
An internal investigation is underway.
