The paperwork is all in, and there are five candidates running for mayor of Regina.
The deadline for nominations to be submitted was Wednesday at 4 p.m. CST.
According to the Elections Regina website(external link), the five candidates are the incumbent, Michael Fougere, along with challengers Evangeline Godron, Tony Fiacco, Jim Elliott and Wayne Ast.
A sixth person, Robert Allin, had earlier submitted nomination papers but his name was no longer listed on the website on Tuesday afternoon.
As far as the city council ward races goes, as many as three acclamations appeared possible (in wards 1, 5 and 10) earlier in the week, but by the Wednesday deadline there were at least two declared candidates in all wards.
In one, Ward 6, there are nine candidates.
It's a different story with the Regina public school board, however. There are seven subdivisions that are represented by trustees, but two of them had only one candidate by the end of the day Wednesday.
That means Jane Ekong in Subdivision 1 and Jay Kasperski in Subdivision 7 will be acclaimed.
The Catholic school board elects trustees in an at-large basis, meaning there can be no acclamations with 17 declared candidates.
Voters go to the polls to select a mayor, city councillors and school board trustees on Oct. 26.
