For the first time in United Way Winnipeg's history, the agency is overhauling its annual campaign to make it a three-year plan that focuses on more than just fundraising.
"This evolution is a direct response to conversations with nearly 2,000 Winnipeggers during United Way's 50th anniversary last year," a news release from the agency stated.
Three Years for a Better Winnipeg is the new campaign, which has four goals:
  • Providing more young people with mentors.
  • Giving 4,000 more kids access to mental health supports.
  • Connecting more people with job skills and money management training.
  • Helping 2,700 more families find support close to home.

"This additional help will build on the core programs and network of services currently funded by United Way, which help thousands of Winnipeggers every day," the release states.
The announcement was made during a community breakfast Thursday morning at Hugh John Macdonald School in the West Alexander neighbourhood.
The food was served up by community leaders, including Mayor Brian Bowman, Premier Brian Pallister and members of the police service.
