Unidentified bone fragments have been found near Dettah, N.W.T., according to an RCMP news release.
RCMP say they've started an investigation after the discovery of the bone fragments "and evidence."
"No further information on what items have been recovered will be provided," the release said.
The RCMP says it's working with the N.W.T. coroner's service to identify the origin of the bone fragments and to determine whether they're human or not.
A forensic examination has been ordered, but the RCMP say, given the type of analysis that's required, it could take months or more than a year for results.
RCMP say another update will be provided as more information is available.
