The City of Thunder Bay reports that the southbound lanes of Balmoral Street, between Hewitson and William Street, will be closed starting on Tuesday, Sept. 6, for approximately two to three weeks.
Work being done includes the filling in of ditches and installation of storm sewers, construction of asphalt multi-use trails on both sides of the road to facilitate active transportation, pavement rehabilitation, and new curb and gutter, the city said.
South bound through traffic will be detoured along the Harbour Expressway to Golf Links Road then down William Street.
South bound local traffic will still be able to access Sibley Drive and Hewitson Street, as well as businesses along Barton and Roland Street. A single northbound lane will remain open.
Detours will be posted to route motorists around the area of construction.
The city reminds drivers that this construction schedule is subject to change, as various factors— such as weather — can have an impact on project timelines. Drivers travelling in the area are asked to use extra caution and obey all posted signs.
