They say you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch.
The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre is not thinking chickens, but they are counting eggs and the total is 18,900, or 1,575 dozen.
Today, Saskatchewan Egg Producers donated the delicious and nutritious bounty.
"Egg farmers in Saskatchewan care about their communities. We are always looking to give back, and this donation is just one of the ways in which we help," said Shawn Harman with the Saskatchewan Egg Producers.
Demand on the food bank is increasing, and it is now serving more than 21,000 people each month. The eggs arrive at a time when donations are traditionally a little slow.
"As children head back into school, being able to offer nutrient rich foods is important to ensure they have the nutrition they need to function and perform well in school," said the food bank's Laurie O'Connor.
