Licence plate on car was stolen, police say
A late-night pursuit of a vehicle in Summerside led to the arrest of two young people in Summerside last weekend.
Police released details of the chase Thursday morning.
It started when a police cruiser on Ottawa Street in the early morning hours Saturday saw an approaching car make a sudden U-turn and speed away.
Officers followed and attempted to pull the vehicle over. It did not stop and there was a short pursuit. The car eventually stopped in the parking lot of a Water Street gas station. Two occupants abandoned it and fled.
Charges of flight from police and theft
Two youth were taken into custody not far from where the car was abandoned.
Police said they later discovered the licence plate on the vehicle was stolen.
A 16-year-old from Summerside faces charges of flight from police and theft under $5,000.
The second person in the vehicle, a 17-year-old from Summerside youth, faces one charge of theft.
