Windsor city council has approved spending $400,000 on a joint bid with London to host the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championships.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says the events will bring tourists and their money.
"The City of London has put $600,000 on the table. The City of Windsor has now put $400,000 on the table. That money will only be spent if we're successful with our bid application," Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens explained. "That bid application is due by the end of this month, and then there's a whole process that Hockey Canada will go through to determine who they award those games to in 2019."
The city will also spend $65,000 to host three major swimming events between 2017 and 2020.
