Road closures begin at 7 a.m. Friday for annual parade
The 55th annual Gold Cup Parade gets underway in Charlottetown on Friday, starting at 10 a.m.
This year's parade theme is "Everything P.E.I."
"P.E.I. has so much to offer; everything from Anne of Green Gables to our world famous seafood, we look forward to seeing a showcase of Prince Edward Island parade through the streets of Charlottetown," said parade chair Ray Murphy in a news release.
The route
The parade will trace a route from North River Road and McGill Avenue to Water Street and Prince Street.
Road closures
While the parade doesn't start until 10 a.m, road closures begin starting at 7 a.m. along the parade route until the parade is finished, at approximately 12 p.m.
Starting at 7 a.m., North River Road between Seaview Boulevard and McGill Avenue will be closed.
The rest of the closures come into effect at 8 a.m.:
- North River Road between McGill Avenue and Brighton Road.
- Brighton Road between North River Road and where it becomes Euston Street.
- Euston Street from where it begins to University Avenue.
- University Avenue from Euston Street to Grafton Street.
- Grafton Street between University Avenue and Queen Street.
- Queen Street from Grafton Street to Water Street.
- Water Street from Queen Street to Weymouth Street.
Water Street access from Grafton will be closed to traffic at approximately 10:30 a.m., with traffic control personnel controlling access to the medical centre on Weymouth Street.
