A Calgary man faces criminal charges after veering erratically around Highway 2 in a minivan carrying young children and blowing nearly 3.5 times the legal limit, according to Airdrie RCMP.
"The concerning nature of this impaired is that three children under the age of 10 were in the vehicle at the time of the offence," Const. Matt Gervais said in a release.
"All three children were returned to a family member following the arrest of the driver."
The 46-year-old driver was arrested Sunday night and has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08 per cent.
Gervais said police would not have caught him if it weren't for witnesses who observed his erratic driving and called 911.
"This is another great example of citizens calling 911 after noticing unusual driving behaviour to help remove another impaired driver from our roadway," he said.
