Show starts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday
Only a few thousand will get to be there live when the Tragically Hip play the last show of their tour tonight in Kingston, Ont., but you've got a number of options to join other Hip fans in Calgary and other parts of Alberta.
The Tragically Hip concert begins at 6:30 p.m. MT Saturday and will be broadcast nationally and streamed around the globe, in its entirety, by the CBC. There will be no on-demand, nor online streaming playback, of the full event following the live show.
But there are more than 100 parties planned in towns and cities across Canada in support of the Canadian Cancer Society — not to mention hundreds more in backyards, basements and bars — to allow fans to watch as the Hip close out their Man Machine Poem Tour.
Lead singer Gord Downie was diagnosed with glioblastoma in May, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.
"It's quite overwhelming the volume of calls and emails we've received," said Kim Rossi, manager of major gifts for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"It's been nothing but an explosion of interest in what we do for brain cancer research as well as brain cancer itself, which as a country we've never talked about. We talk about breast cancer and prostate cancer a lot more."
All funds raised at the events will go toward the Canadian Cancer Society.
"It feels like everyone is sort of cheering (Downie) on. It's a celebration of life. He's doing what he loves to do."
Canadians are also being encouraged to text the word FIGHT to 20222 to make a donation of $10, $20 or $25 to brain cancer research.
The list of events continues to grow and is updated daily, said Rossi.
