Tom DeBlois, community leader and volunteer, dead at 69

Ran federally for the Conservative Party in Charlottetown in 2006 and 2008

Charlottetown businessman and former Conservative party candidate Tom DeBlois died suddenly Saturday at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He was 69.
DeBlois worked in the family wholesale business until 1986 and became general manager of the DeBlois Distribution Centre after the business was sold to TRA Atlantic.
After retiring in 2005, DeBlois ran federally for the Conservatives in Charlottetown in 2006 and 2008.
Tom spent a lifetime working to improve his community and his contributions will be deeply missed. - Official Opposition Leader Jamie Fox
But for many, like Official Opposition Leader Jamie Fox, it will be his volunteer work that DeBlois will be remembered for.
"I was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Mr. Tom DeBlois," Fox said in a written statement.
"Along with a distinguished career in business Tom was a tireless community servant ... Tom spent a lifetime working to improve his community and his contributions will be deeply missed. On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island I want to extend deepest sympathies to Tom's family and friends on their loss."
DeBlois volunteered with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Great Charlottetown Chamber of Commerce, and St. Paul's Anglican Church, among others, according to Fox.
The funeral service is scheduled for Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church.
