An extensive search is underway for a 15-year-old girl who went missing in a heavily-wooded remote area in northern Saskatchewan on Sunday.
Sabrina Montgrand is believed to have left Turnor Lake, about 590 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, with two male teens on a quad some time on Sunday morning.

Foul play not suspected

The group travelled to a heavily-forested area about two hours north of Turnor Lake. At some point during the day, Montgrand became separated from the two other teens and she was not with them when they returned.
Buffalo Narrows RCMP said foul play is not suspected and the investigation is a missing persons case.

Lost in the woods

Staff Sgt. Joanne Derworiz said police were concerned for her safety because temperatures had been cold and there was wildlife in the area.
"She's in this forested area, she went without any survival gear, she was not prepared to spend any [time] overnight in the area," she said. "She has no food, she's going to have to fend for herself for water, there's lots of bugs, it's cold, we've had heavy rain."

Difficult search

Derworiz said police were searching a large area near Wasekamio Lake on foot and on quads until sundown on Tuesday. An air search was also conducted on Tuesday, and another might happen on Wednesday.
A community-led search is also being co-ordinated out of the Birch Narrows Health Clinic.
The clinic's health co-ordinator, Corinne Laprise, said 122 people signed up to join the search, including 80 people who searched a quad-trail area on the way to Cluff Lake Monday night.

Community effort

Laprise said a group also searched back alleys in Turnor Lake.
"It's so amazing how much support we are getting from all the surrounding areas," she said.
Montgrand, who is from Birch Narrows First Nation is described as being five-feet five-inches tall, of average build with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
