33-year-old woman accused of taking money from local fundraisers
RCMP have charged a woman in Drumheller, Alta., with stealing money that was raised for a young cancer patient.
The arrest comes after local citizens and businesses organized fundraising events in April for Brandon Hall, who was diagnosed with cancer last fall at the age of 19.
Police said the proceeds from the events were ostensibly to go toward helping Hall and his family with expenses.
But officers received a complaint in June that a substantial amount of the money was missing and never made it to the family.
The 33-year-old woman been charged with theft under $5,000.
She is set to appear in provincial court in Drumheller on Aug. 26.
