Pedestrian critically injured by SUV driver backing out of driveway in Calgary's Hawkwood community

Middle-aged woman suffered life-threatening injuries and the dog she was walking ran away following collision

A woman out walking her dog was hit and critically injured by an SUV driver who was reversing the vehicle out of a driveway and across a sidewalk, according to police.
The collision happened around 10 a.m. on Thursday in the 100 block of Hawkwood Drive N.W.
EMS spokesman Adam Loria said paramedics transported a middle-aged woman to Foothills Medical Centre in critical, life-threatening condition.
No other injuries were reported.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, a Honda CRV, remained at the scene and is co-operating with investigators.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The woman's dog ran off following the collision and police are asking the public for help in locating the pet.
The dog is described as black in colour and wearing a leash.
