Eleven cars were stolen over the weekend the Windsor Police Services says in a news release.
Nine of those thefts were the result of owners either:
- Leaving keys in parked vehicles with its doors locked or unlocked.
- Leaving keys for one of two parked vehicles inside the second unlocked vehicle.
- Leaving an unlocked vehicle with keys inside, inside the garage and inadvertently leaving the garage door open overnight.
- Gardening in the backyard while the front garage door was open, allowing the thief to get the keys.
The Windsor police auto theft unit reminds car owners to ensure their parked vehicles are locked and not to leave keys inside. The advice also applies to radio frequency fobs for push start ignitions.
