1 dead, 5 hurt when truck and SUV crash into group of motorcyclists near Pigeon Lake

Five motorcyclists were transported to hospital — one by STARS
A 29-year-old man died Saturday when two vehicles crossed into the opposing lane and hit six motorcyclists near Pigeon Lake.
RCMP said the collision occurred about 12:45 p.m. when the driver of a Ford F-150 headed eastbound on Highway 13 struck the rear of an eastbound Ford Explorer that had slowed down to turn north onto Range Road 12.
As a result of this collision both vehicles crossed into the opposing lane and hit the motorcyclists, who were travelling westbound on Highway 13.
RCMP say the motorcyclists were part of a large group of between 20 and 30 people doing a ride from Edmonton to Sylvan Lake.
Five other motorcyclists were transported to hospital — one by STARS air ambulance.
None of occupants of the F150 or the Explorer needed hospital attention. The F150 carried a family of four with two small children The driver of the Explorer was alone.
A collision reconstructionist was helping with the investigation.
Pigeon Lake is around 100 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
