Orthodontic services will remain in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, reversing an earlier decision to remove the services as a cost-cutting measure, Labrador-Grenfell Health has confirmed to CBC.
The health authority said in a statement it has reached an agreement-in-principle with the community's orthodontist, Dr. Larry Jackman, to continue providing treatments to the community.
The statement said those treatments apply to current patients only.
Orthodontic services were set to end in Happy Valley-Goose Bay in September, as one way Labrador-Grenfell Health was looking to save money in the wake of budget cuts this past spring. The move was met with outcry from patients, with one woman claiming the cut could add $35,000 to her son's braces budget.
Last week, the health authority reversed another of its cost-cutting decisions, announcing it would not be scaling back its chartered air service for patients living on the south coast of Labrador, after reaching a deal with its airline provider.
