RCMP responded to reports of a man driving southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 2A near Airdrie just after noon Saturday.
Police say the driver's actions required many other drivers to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision
The man, driving a white Chevrolet Sonic, made it to Highway 2 where police say he changed directions several times going northbound and southbound between Olds and Airdrie.
RCMP from Airdrie, Didsbury and Olds helped in the incident and the driver was stopped near Crossfield.

The 29-year-old was found to have a blood alcohol content of about two-and-a-half times the legal blood alcohol concentration of 0.08.
Police say it was the numerous calls to 9-1-1 by witnesses that helped them apprehend the man.
He's facing charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving and driving over the limit. The man has been released but will appear in an Airdrie courtroom to face the charges at a future date.
