RCMP say the man was with a group of friends when he lost his footing and fell
A 21-year-old man from Calgary has died while hiking in Yoho National Park Thursday, say police.
"At this time we can confirm that the male was hiking with a group of friends in the alpine above the Little Yoho Campground in Yoho National Park," said Const. Spencer Lainchbury.
"It's believed that the male lost his footing, falling approximately 200 metres."
RCMP said a Canadian Forces helicopter flying in the area responded shortly after the man's three male friends activated a personal locator beacon.
Police and emergency responders waited for the helicopter in Golden, B.C., but the hiker died before it arrived.
The other hikers were not injured.
