A new marketing campaign to get people to drink more milk was one of the items discussed at the Dairy Farmers of Canada annual general meeting in Charlottetown.
Tom Hoogendoorn, a dairy farmer from British Columbia, said more Canadians are eating cheese, butter and yogurt — but milk consumption is down.
"We believe that milk creates a healthier person, or a healthier Canadian. I think people just lost sight of the fact that there's so many designer drinks, like almond milk, they get nice fancy packaging — really there's only one milk and that's dairy milk," said Hoogendoorn.
"We used to try to sell milk to the young families. We're going to start looking at the younger generation, the males. We just want to bring back the fact that it's a viable drink, and price wise it competes with all the drinks out there. Milk is local. Orange juice? That's not local. Gatorade? I mean how is that made?"
The new marketing campaign is still in the planning stages.
