It must be acknowledged I probably did not see Gerard Harris on his finest night.
His Friday show hit a bump about midway, when a couple left the theatre during a point in his autobiographical monologue dealing with sexual abuse — possibly triggered by the story.
It ended after running 15 minutes over time, apparently with at least one episode from his life left untold — and leaving the show without anything really resembling an ending.
So I can't tell you how it ends. I can tell you Harris is clearly hugely talented, a cut above most storytellers. Pushing beyond simple autobiography, his life story becomes a story about story. "Never trust the teller, trust the tale," he says.
It all felt scattered and unfinished to me — perhaps related to the fact the performance I saw was scattered and unfinished.
