Toronto Maple Leafs reveal centennial plans

Team celebrating 100th year throughout upcoming season
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced plans for their centennial season at a news conference at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Thursday.
The team unveiled a centennial anniversary logo along with several events and initiatives to take place during the 2016-17 season.
The events and initiatives include:
- New banners at Air Canada Centre for past players who have had their numbers honoured.
- Pre-season games in Halifax, St. Catharines, Ont., and Hamilton, Ont.
- A committee of "prominent members of the hockey community, media and fans" will determine a list of the 100 greatest players in Leafs history.
- Former players Dave Keon, Tim Horton and Turk Broda will be added to the team's Legends Row monument in October.
- The team will wear Toronto St. Pats uniforms for its home game against Chicago on March 18. The franchise was called the St. Pats from 1919-1927.
- As previously announced, the Leafs will play Detroit in the outdoor NHL Centennial Classic on New Year's Day at BMO Field. Toronto will wear special uniforms for the game.
The Hall of Fame opened a special exhibit to mark the Leafs' 100th year.
"There will also be many surprises throughout the season that our fans can look forward to, including a historic opening night celebration," said Leafs president Brendan Shanahan. "We look forward to sharing this special year with our fans."
The Leafs open the 2016-17 season Oct. 12 in Ottawa, and play their home opener three days later against Boston.
