A man is dead following a house fire in Winnipeg's North End.
According to crews on scene, a passerby noticed smoke coming from the home in the 200 block of Aberdeen Avenue around 6 p.m. and called 911.
Investigators said the body was badly burned and initially, the person was determined to be in critical condition. He was pronounced dead a short while later.
Police did not release the name or exact age of the man, but said he was in his 50s.
It is believed the fire started from something being cooked in the kitchen, police said, adding it is not being considered suspicious.
By 8 p.m., crews had extinguished most of the fire but said the home had extensive damage.
