Startup funding will help new business get going
A new business aimed at helping seniors with their grocery shopping has received startup funding from the PEI Business Women's Association.
Darlene Ramsay says she will use the $500 to get the business up and running and put her love of shopping to work.
Ramsay will operate "Store to Door" in Springhill, P.E.I.
She says the reason she started her personal shopper service is to help seniors, after hearing stories about difficulties they have in grocery stores.
Ramsay recently retired from working in long-term care homes and manors.
"You know it was so sad, and they're trying to do the best on their own, you go in and you look down those long aisles, one lady said, 'I can't do it, I can't make it down those long aisles'. So what they do is they go to another store that has everything right there, and the prices are sky high," said Ramsay.
"I've worked for seniors for years and if I can help them one little bit, I'm out there to help them. I am always on the go, and I enjoy it, I love to shop. It makes you feel like hey, I'm doing a service here."
Ramsay will charge $20 for up to a $200 shopping trip. The amount will increase by 10 per cent after it goes over $200.
