City to get input from neighbours at public meeting Wednesday
The Mudmen Rugby Club wants to serve beer at its games in Charlottetown this summer.
The club plays its home games at Queen Elizabeth Park near North River Road. Club president Phil Gallant says it's customary in rugby to celebrate with the opposition after a game.
"Everybody who is close to rugby realizes that beer is a large component of what we do," he said.
Help with costs
The club hopes a beer tent will also help raise money for operating costs, as well as attract more people to the games.

"We have a lot of alumni who come to the games and a lot of veteran players who can't play anymore and they just like to have a cold beverage when they're watching the game," Gallant said.
City officials are holding a public meeting Wednesday at the West Royalty Community Centre to hear what neighbours think of the idea.
Responsible beer servers
Gallant said the Mudmen have a good reputation and are committed to keeping a positive image in the community. Beer drinkers will be contained to a restricted area, near the bathrooms and canteen, he said.
Responsible beer servers will be on site from Hunters Ale House.
"There has to be somebody to make sure a few of us don't have too many," he said. "We want to keep everything safe."
