Officers subdued 45-year-old man found with sledgehammer and crowbar inside business on 17th Avenue S.W.
Update: ASIRT has determined there was no wrongdoing and that police used justified force under the circumstances.
The province's police watchdog announced Tuesday it is investigating Calgary officers after a man arrested during a commercial break-in was seriously injured.
The incident occurred at about 1:10 a.m. on June 11 at a closed business along the city's popular 17th Avenue S.W., according to the the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
Police allege the 45-year-old man broke into the business. Officers confronted him inside the building.

The man was "armed with a sledgehammer and crowbar," ASIRT said in a release.
He was arrested and, once in custody, complained of being injured.
ASIRT said the man suffered "serious injuries" and was briefly admitted to hospital and treated, then released.
He remains in custody, awaiting trial.
The investigation will focus on "the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the officers while engaged with the man," ASIRT said.
