A Medicine Hat woman who was charged with assaulting her husband on the weekend faces upgraded charges after the man died from his injuries, police say.
Officers were called to a house in the city's southeast early Saturday morning for reports of a disturbance.
The 51-year-old was treated at the scene for unspecified injuries.
His wife, also 51, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
The man later died from his injuries.
"Due to the death of the victim, police will liaise with the medical examiner and will upgrade the charges against the accused, pending the autopsy results, at her next appearance," police said in a release.
The major crimes and forensic identification units of the Medicine Hat police are continuing to investigate.
Investigators are not looking for any more suspects in the "domestic-related incident" and there is no risk to the community, police said.
The woman is set to appear in court on June 22.
