'There's a little bit of sense of adventure coming to work'
From a 40-kilometre cross-country ride to a quick hop to daycare or the dog park, Islanders shared pictures of themselves and their rides to celebrate Bike to Work Day on P.E.I.
Ready for the rain
Lynn Anne Hogan and Alex (and Heatwave the rescue bot) regularly bike to daycare in Kensington, P.E.I., and they are prepared for rain.
'There is no such thing as bad weather'
Andy Trivett misses his ride across the Hillsborough Bridge. He is biking to work in Waterloo, Ont., these days.
A year-round biker Trivett reminds us, "There is no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate gear."
25 kilometre commute
Ron Skinner enjoys a long rural ride, 25 kilometres from Bonshaw, P.E.I., to Milton, P.E.I.
"When the weather cooperates," he said.
"Though I do ride in the rain on occasion!"
'It kind of clears the head'
Shannon Burt has a short urban commute up North River Road in Charlottetown, just an eight-minute ride, but he told CBC's Island Morning it helps the transition from home to work.
"There's a little bit of sense of adventure coming to work. It kind of clears the head," he said.
"And then, coming home, it's that same thing. You get to pedal off any frustration."
'Beautiful island scenes'
It's too long for a commute every day, but Omair Imtiaz has managed the 75-kilometre round trip from Charlottetown to Belfast, P.E.I., a few times this year.
"Almost 40 kilometres through beautiful island scenes!" he wrote on CBC P.E.I.'s Facebook page.
"Since it's a 75 kilometre round trip I keep an eye out for the weather, especially the wind."
More than just a ride to work
Commuting is okay, said Joanne MacNevin, but she likes to get more out of her bicycle.
"I like biking to work when it's nice out," said MacNevin,
"But I love going for a nice, long cycle after work along the trails, or out around Stanhope and Brackley."
Four paws and four wheels
Susan Naylor is set up for a commute with her dog.
"We commute — on four wheels — to the dog park, to the walking trails, and to the beach," said Naylor.
