Annual pre-budget consultations now underway
Islanders are being reminded they can take part in annual federal pre-budget consultations, said the committee's chair and Malpeque MP Wayne Easter in a written release.
"Each year, the Committee undertakes this important process, and is always very grateful for the thoughtful and interesting proposals made by Canadians for potential inclusion in the forthcoming federal budget," he said.
The suggestions made by Canadians will be considered by the finance minister as the 2017 federal budget is developed, Easter said.
Submissions should focus on:
- What federal measures would help Canadians maximize their contributions to the economy.
- What federal actions would help Canada's businesses prosper.
- What federal measures would ensure that urban, rural and remote communities help residents contribute to the economy.
The deadline for written submissions, which should be 2,000 words maximum, is Friday, August 5. All submissions will be passed on to committee members and posted on its website. Written submissions can be sent to: finapbc-cpb@parl.gc.ca.
In September, the committee will invite some groups and individuals to appear as witnesses during the pre-budget hearings, likely in Ottawa and in cities across Canada.
