Cochrane RCMP have charged a youth with uttering threats for content he posted to social media platform Snapchat.
According to police, the 15-year-old posted a photo of himself on June 3 with some ammunition with a caption warning Cochrane High School students not to attend class on June 6.
Cochrane RCMP Sgt. Jeff Campbell says this type of incident is not a joke.
"Once it's put out there, and especially when you talk about school shootings or making the reference to it, the community is very keenly aware and very sensitive to it," he said.
"So we take all incidents of this very seriously and we'll investigate it very thoroughly, as seen here where we've laid charges."
Police arrested and charged the youth, who has been released into his parents' custody and barred from having any contact with firearms or ammunition.
He is also not allowed to use his computer for anything but school work until the end of the school year.
In a press release, police said they have no reason to believe anyone else was involved in the threat.
