Toronto Mayor John Tory confirmed this morning that a hotel tax is among the revenue tools under consideration as the city seeks more sources of revenue.
Metro Morning host Matt Galloway asked Tory about a morning news report that says city officials have sought permission from the provincial government to impose a tax on hotel rooms.
The city can't impose such a tax without a go-ahead from Queen's Park.
Tory said Premier Kathleen Wynne "hasn't promised me anything and nor have I asked for anything specifically" about a hotel tax. However he added: "We have discussed a number of ways in which the city can enhance its revenues.
"A tax on hotel rooms is on the table for discussion when we discuss revenues at the end of this month," said Tory.
Galloway asked if Wynne was on side in imposing such a tax.
"I will let the premier speak for herself," said Tory. "I will let her comment on those discussions as she wishes."
