Miramichi is hosting what's being called "Atlantic Canada premiere striped bass tournament" this weekend.
The Miramichi Striper Cup(external link) is expected to attract about 150 fishers over the two-day tournament Saturday and Sunday, said Miramichi tourism director Jeff MacTavish.
It's a catch-and-release tournament, but participants won't have to hungry.
"There will be lots of activity along Miramichi river with boats, and Ribfest going on so if you're done fishing and a little bit hungry you can enjoy some great ribs," MacTavish said.
There are three divisions: team, individual and youth. Participants weigh two fish per day, and the team with the highest total wins $5,000.
There is also a draw to win a boat, motor and trailer package valued $20,000.
Last year, 118 people participated.
