A cottage in the western P.E.I. community of Brooklyn was destroyed by fire Friday morning.
Someone driving by just before 8 a.m. noticed the fire and called for help, said Alberton deputy fire chief Tom Murphy. About 20 firefighters responded.
There was no one inside the building at the time of the fire.
"The cottage was fairly well engulfed when we got there," Murphy said.
"The owner had said that he was there earlier this morning and turned on some electric heat to warm it up so they could move in on the weekend. So we think it was from possibly an electric heater.".
The owners had recently completed renovations to the property, Murphy said.
"Nothing was saved," he said.
