Sidewalk repair and repaving slated for busy stretch of southwest throughway
Calgary drivers who use Macleod Trail regularly may want to avoid the area between 34 Avenue and 58 Avenue S.W. this summer.
The 2.5-kilometre stretch is getting a major overhaul that includes repaving and replacement of sidewalks and curbs.

Given the fact that 50,000 vehicles travel down that portion of Macleod Trail everyday, the city says it will do its best to minimize delays by trying to keep all the lanes open during the morning and evening rush hour.
"We don't want to cause unnecessary impact to motorists," said Chris McGeachy with Calgary Roads.
The city has already begun breaking up concrete curbs on the west side of the busy road, which has resulted in some daytime lane closures.
"This work will basically continue through June and then we kinda shut it down during Stampede because obviously Macleod Trail is very important during that time of year," said McGeachy.
"Following Stampede, we'll begin with milling work and then the paving work."
The goal is to finish the work by the end of August and access to all businesses along Macleod Trail will not be affected.
